Spliff’s Gastropub Will Bring New Fare Downtown

The Elbow will soon see a new addition to its dining and drinking options. Spliff’s Gastropub, a comfort-food inspired restaurant and bar, is set to open this fall at 15 N. Ocean St., in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville. The opening of Spliff’s Gastropub reflects the growth and city-wide interest in a more vibrant downtown. The new restaurant is part of an expansion from the owners of 1904 Music Hall, a live music venue located directly next to the space. Duane De Castro, managing partner of both businesses, recognized a demand for more dining and drinking venues in the burgeoning entertainment district.

“There is a growing belief throughout greater Jacksonville that Downtown is improving and becoming a destination for food, libations, and entertainment”, said De Castro. “In the three years since we’ve opened 1904 Music Hall, we have seen exponential growth in the amount of foot traffic. Specifically, we’ve heard more and more demands for food options.”

Reflecting the uniqueness of the 111-year-old Jacksonville building, Spliff’s boasts 15-foot-high ceilings with exposed wooden beams as well as a 65-foot original brick wall. There is also reclaimed wood from the city’s historic Upchurch building that was re-purposed as custom light fixtures.

The matching maple tables and bar tops will add to the rustic and unique decor. The space will also offer on outdoor beer garden featuring communal tables and a small stage for entertainment.

With a commitment to quality, Spliff’s Gastropub has partnered with Chef Daniel Johnson from San Diego, to help design and execute the menu. The classically trained chef will offer a new variation on Southern comfort food.  Some of the unique offerings include a house mac-n-cheese with more than 20 flavors, baked chicken wings and a West Coast style tri-tip roast beef. The menu aims to have a little something for everyone. The bar will feature a wall of rotating taps of craft and local beers as well as a robust mix of international wines and sakes.

Spliff’s Gastropub is set to open in early fall. In addition to dining in and takeout, Spliff’s Gastropub will be available for private events and catering. Hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday 11a.m.-2a.m., Friday 11a.m.-3a.m., & Saturday 6p.m.-3a.m.
